If you asked our three dogs to choose their favourite enrichment toy, you'd get three completely different answers.
That's one of the reasons we love enrichment. Every dog is unique, and finding the right activity for their personality can help keep them happy, engaged and mentally stimulated.
We use enrichment toys regularly with our dogs, whether it's to burn off energy, provide a mental challenge or simply offer a distraction during something they don't enjoy.
Why Use Enrichment Toys?
Enrichment toys encourage dogs to think, sniff, lick, search and problem-solve rather than simply eating from a bowl.
We've found they can:
- Make mealtimes more engaging
- Help reduce boredom
- Provide mental stimulation
- Encourage natural behaviours
- Offer a positive distraction during stressful situations
We often use part or all of our dogs' daily food allowance in enrichment toys, turning feeding time into an activity.
Nala's Favourite: The Giggle Ball 😃
Nala, our Labrador, is completely ball obsessed.
The Giggle Ball is one of her favourites because it combines everything she loves. It's easy to fill with dry food or treats, rolls around unpredictably and makes engaging sounds while she's playing.
For a dog with plenty of energy, it transforms mealtime into a game and keeps her moving while rewarding her efforts.

Padme's Choice: The Rolling Treat Dispenser 🧠
Padmé, our clever Jack Russell Cross, loves a challenge.
She quickly works out simple puzzles, so she needs something that keeps her brain busy. The Rolling Treat Dispensing Tube is perfect because she has to think about how to move it to release the food inside.
Watching her work out the best approach is always impressive and gives her an outlet for all that terrier intelligence.

Coco Bean's Go-To: The Lick Mat 😋
Then there's Coco Bean, our Jug (Jack Russell Cross Pug).
Unlike Nala and Padmé, she's not interested in working hard for her snacks. She likes things simple and wants to see her reward!
We mainly use the Lick Mat during nail clipping because it's something she really dislikes. A tasty spread on the mat keeps her happily occupied while we get the job done.
For Coco Bean, enrichment isn't about burning energy. It's about providing a positive distraction, and it works brilliantly.

Every Dog Is Different
What works for one dog won't necessarily work for another.
A ball-loving Labrador may thrive with a moving food puzzle, a clever terrier might enjoy a challenge that requires problem-solving, and a more relaxed dog may prefer the simple satisfaction of a lick mat.
The secret is finding enrichment that matches your dog's personality.
